I am drunk on promises
I am too afraid to keep.
drunk on all the possibilities
loving you would bring me.
I am drunk at two p.m.
on the anniversary
of the day we met
thinking about how drunk
we must’ve been
to believe
this was kismet.
I am drunk on the promises
you haven’t said yet.
believe it or not,
I am drunk not on wine,
but every pinky swear
you ever bent.
I am drunk on the promise
of better days ahead
and am too dizzy to see
I’m about to fall down the steps.
I am too drunk on your promise
that you will always catch me
to notice you were never
meant for me.
I am drunk on promises
we were destined to break,
promises more fragile than
our wine glass mistakes.
