what have I done to deserve

the way you make me hurt?

the way your words

burrowed into my skin;

the very dirt

I’m buried in.

what have I done to deserve

the way they plant themselves

deep into my bones,

suck my marrow dry

and build their homes

in my hollow moans.

I've internalized every stone

you’ve ever thrown at me.

swallowed like a seed,

they sprout in my belly

and give birth

to more insecurities

that devour my purity

from the inside out.

what did I do to deserve

being eaten alive

by my own self-worth?
