galaxies collapsed
the day you asked
me to leave.
the head-splitting crash,
the deafening crack
of my heart
snapping in half
shook the heavens
loose of their reckon.
the stars rained
down in pieces,
gravity shrieked,
its arms too weak
to hold my grief.
the atmosphere cried,
opened wide
to invite you inside,
terrified, but
desperate enough
to beg you
for love.
I should’ve known
you would chase me
out of the home
I built for us,
but I didn’t.
I should’ve seen
the stars align,
the planets collide,
the universe unwind
at your arrival,
but I didn’t.
because
if you stare
at the sun
for too long,
you go blind.
