Keeping your heart is a blood sport
I know I’ll never win.
It slips from my crimson grip
and shatters to the floor.
I ache to glue you back together
but you never seek healing.
You seek revenge.
Shards of your shattered heart
slice the very hands
responsible for your breaking,
and now neither of us are whole,
both of us,
aching.
You prick me,
and I bleed,
you trick me,
and I believe you.
But I love you,
and you hate me.
Loving you is a blood sport
I know I’ll never win,
but still,
I play.
